Unlimited Email Accounts Tied to the Domain Name of Your Nonprofit Organization

Did you know that Google provides a wonderful FREE service to NONPROFIT organizations?  If you are a nonprofit organization, you can get unlimited email accounts, each with its own password, tied to your ministry domain name. The service is  called G SUITE FOR NONPROFITS .

What it gets you:

  • Unlimited Gmail accounts that end in @yourdomain.com, vs @gmail.com
  • Google drive, docs, sheets, slides, etc. All those fun little apps
  • 30GB of space (up from 15 in personal accounts) for Drive documents and email hosting
  • 24/7 actual person support via phone, chat and email
  • Admin access over all your organization’s accounts
  • Biggest potential use: We all know how useful Google docs are, but I think Google hosting the data while giving you full control is the best feature of this product. This frees up space on your server, and you can auto-archive emails after a certain period to automate ongoing maintenance.

For a nonprofit organization in the Unites States:

1) Organizations must be recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations formed for charitable, educational, religious, literary, scientific, or other tax-exempt purposes.

2) Fiscally sponsored organizations are not eligible for Google for Nonprofits.

3) Organizations, such as churches, that are automatically considered tax-exempt under group exemption must still obtain recognition of 501(c)(3) tax exemption from the IRS to qualify for the Google for Nonprofits program.

4) Your organization can NOT be:  a governmental entity or organization, or a hospital or health care organization, or a school, academic institution, or university (philanthropic arms of educational organizations are eligible). To learn more about Google's programs for educational institutions, visit Google for Education.

5) All organizations must be verified as a nonprofit organization by TechSoup or the local TechSoup partner. TechSoup works with local partners around the world to verify nonprofit organizations. TechSoup partners check legal and programmatic information related to your organization to verify your status as a legally registered and active social benefit, nonprofit, and nongovernmental organization.  You can apply to be verified by TechSoup as part of the process of signing up for the free unlimited email accounts tied to your church domain name by following step 7) below.

6) Gather this information about your organization:

  • Full legal name of your organization
  • Your organization’s EIN (Nonprofit ID)- A valid EIN will look like XX-XXXXXXX
  • Your organization’s physical address, phone number and email address
  • Your organization’s online contact information
  • The name, job title, phone number and email address of an official representative of your nonprofit organization

7) Go to: https://www.google.com/nonprofits/     Click on the blue “Get Started” tab at the top right corner.  Follow the application process. It usually takes about 10 minutes.

8)  Wait for verification. In the United States, Google sends the details you provided in the Google for Nonprofits account request directly to TechSoup so they can verify your organization and that you're affiliated with it. Most requests will be reviewed in 2-14 business days. In some cases it can take up to 30 business days to be verified. TechSoup will contact you for more information or documentation so they can verify your organization

To Find your TechSoup validation token:

  • If your organization has already been verified by TechSoup or a local TechSoup partner, you will use the validation token to request a Google for Nonprofits account.
  • Sign in to your TechSoup or local TechSoup partner account
  • Look for a TechSoup validation token. It will look something like"123c492@MyOrgName."
  • TechSoup validation tokens expire after 60 days. If your token is expired, you can create a new validation token.
